TWEED CLOTH · FRED TEXTILE

Select Tweed for Skirt Development

Plan tweed skirts around motif placement, silhouette, construction and the next sample task.

Put the pattern on the sketch.

Place the motif at the waist, hip, closure and hem on the actual sketch. A large repeat can change its visual balance over a short skirt or through shaped seams.

Define shape and handle.

Describe the intended shape: a closer fit, an A-line form or a softer drape. Discuss movement and lining with the garment team instead of assigning suitability from the pattern name.

Trial the assembled garment.

Trial the closure, waistband and hem on the actual cloth. Review how the surface and repeat read when folded, joined and worn. Record construction observations separately from colour approval.

Connect the sample to the order.

If the skirt belongs to a matching set, use a shared colour and fabric reference while reviewing each garment independently. One approved jacket panel does not answer every skirt construction question.

Why does a large check look uneven on a shaped skirt?

Shaped seams and a curved waist divide the repeat. Mark which line or intersection should anchor the design, then review it over the skirt pieces. Ask the pattern maker to check how the motif changes across sizes. A rectangular fabric image cannot establish the final placement.

What changes when the skirt is part of a set?

Use the same approved fabric and colour reference for both garments, but assess their construction independently. Record waistband, closure, lining and movement requirements for the skirt. Check visual continuity between pieces without assuming that a jacket sample approves the whole set.
